I cried and laughed at Home Run Four. It was LG Twins captain Oh Ji-hwan who ended a series of upsets. He became the hero of Game 3 of the Korean Series with a three-run home run in the ninth inning.

The LG Twins came from behind to beat the KT Wiz 8-7 in Game 3 of the best-of-seven 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League Korean Series at KT Wiz Park in Suwon on Tuesday. After falling behind 2-0 in Game 1, LG rebounded to win Game 2 5-4 and took Game 3 to improve to 2-1 in the all-time Korean Series. They are one step closer to winning their first Korean Series title in 29 years since 1994.

Following Games 1 and 2, 17,600 seats were sold out for Game 3, continuing the fervor of the Korean Series. KT started foreign pitcher Wes Benjamin, who was very strong against LG in the regular season. Benjamin was very strong in five games against LG this season, going 4-0 with a 0.84 ERA.

However, it was LG who struck first. LG took the lead in the top of the third inning when No. 4 hitter Austin Dean took a four-pitch fastball from Benjamin and smashed a three-run home run to left field. Benjamin’s confidence was shaken. KT fought back immediately. After scoring one run on Hwang Jae-gyun’s RBI double in the bottom of the third, KT turned the game around in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on first and second, Kim Min-hyuk and Anthony Alford singled to tie the game at 3-3. Then, with the bases loaded and two outs, No. 9 batter Choi Soo-ho singled up the middle to bring home Alford from second base to make it 4-3.

LG came back in the top of the sixth inning. Park Dong-won, who had hit the game-winning two-run homer in Game 2, took a 145-kilometer-per-hour fastball off KT’s second pitcher Son Dong-hyun and launched another two-run shot to left field. With the game on the line, KT took advantage of LG closer Ko Woo-seok in the bottom of the eighth inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Hwang Jae-gyun hit a two-run double down the left field line to tie the game at 5-5. Then, KT’s No. 4, Park Byung-ho, who had been silent throughout the series, hit a two-run homer. He took a 149-kilometer-per-hour fastball from Ko Woo-seok’s fifth pitch and launched it over the left-field wall.

The game seemed to be tilted in KT’s favor until the top of the ninth inning. LG captain Oh Ji-hwan changed the game. With runners on second and third, Oh took a fastball from KT’s Kim Jae-yoon and hit a towering three-run home run. The home run turned the score from 5-7 to 8-7, and the LG away fans cheered in unison.

The game remained tight until the end. KT had the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth against LG closer Ko Woo-seok, who was still on the mound, after Kim Jun-tae singled to center, Jung Joon-young singled to left, and Bae Jae-dae was hit by a pitch. But LG’s 바카라 eighth pitcher, Lee Jung-yong, got KT’s No. 1 hitter, Kim Sang-soo, to ground into a fielder’s choice to seal the dramatic comeback win.

In the history of the Korean Series, the first team to win two games after a 1-1 tie has won 85% of the time (17 of 20). The two teams will play Game 4 at the same venue on Nov. 11 at 2 p.m.
