Son Heung-min and Hwang Hee-chan are both in the top 10 of the Premier League’s best goalscorers this season.
Football365 revealed its top 10 Premier League finishers of the 2023-24 season on Monday (Aug. 8). The list, which is based on players scoring more goals relative to their expected goals (xG) value, features Son Heung-min and Hwang Hee-chan at No. 1 and No. 6, respectively.
According to the media, Son Heung-min has an xG value of 9.4 this season. He actually scored 15 goals. That’s 5.6 goals more than the 9.4 he was expected to score. That’s how decisive he was.
The media also said, “He is an amazing soccer player. Top scorer Elling Holland had more than double the xG value of Son Heung-min, who scored his 15th goal of the season against Luton Town.”
Holland’s expected value this season is 21.8 goals, but he has scored 19 goals, 2.8 fewer than his actual goal tally. He is ranked fifth on the list of the most decisive strikers this season. Unlike Son Heung-min, who found the back of the net when he shouldn’t have, Holland didn’t find the back of the net when he should have.
Son’s goal against Luton Town on March 31 gave him 159 goals for Tottenham, moving him into fifth place on the club’s all-time goalscoring list. In his most recent game against Nottingham Forest, he picked up his ninth assist of the season.
If his recent form continues, he could become the league’s top goalscorer and top assister. Only four players in Premier League history have won both the goals and assists titles. Andy Cole scored 34 goals and provided 13 assists for Newcastle in the 1993-94 season. Then, in 1998-99, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink scored 18 goals and provided 13 assists for Leeds United to win both the goalscoring and assisting titles.
The third is Tottenham legend Harry Kane. His 23 goals and 14 assists in 2020-21 led the league in both goals and assists. In 2021-22, Mohamed Salah became the last player to achieve the feat with 23 goals and 13 assists. Heung-Min Son is on track to join only four other players in Premier League history.
He is also within striking distance of the 10-10 mark, which is 10 league goals and 10 assists in a season. There are only nine players in Premier League history who have recorded 10-10 twice: Son, Brian Dean (Leeds United), Matt Le Tissier (Southampton), Chris Sutton (Norwich City/Blackburn), Dwight Yorke (Villa/Manchester United), Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry (Arsenal), Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City), and Raheem Sterling (Manchester City).

Eric Cantona (Leeds/Manchester United), Frank Lampard (Chelsea) and Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) have four, while Wayne Rooney (Man United) has the most with five.

Hwang is hoping to return to the field in about a month. Although he hasn’t been able to return to action, he has been training with the team since the last match against West Ham and is slowly improving his condition. Wolverhampton posted a photo of Hwang training with the team on the club’s official website, signaling his imminent return.
