Oh started playing basketball in the second grade of middle school. This was later than most players.

“Since I was young, I’ve always liked playing sports with a ball, but I chose basketball because it suits me and it’s a fun sport,” says Oh. “I was playing club basketball with my brother. “My brother was playing club basketball with his brother, and they were having a practice game with an elite team, so I went to watch, and I was invited to join them and try out for the basketball team,” he said.

Currently, Hongdae Bujung is led by coach Kim Dong-hwan. The team has a total of 20 players, including captain Oh Young-hoo. There are five third-year players.

“We have a lot of teammates, so we all have different personalities. But we’re all nice and fun. We’re like brothers. When I was first asked to be captain, I had a lot of thoughts. I was nervous and wondered how to lead the team,” he said.

“I’m close with all my friends. On our days off, we would go to the water park with our parents,” he said. “Of course, sometimes we don’t see eye-to-eye and fight during the game, but after the game, we talk to each other and solve the problem.”

Finally, he talked about basketball at Hongdae.

“Coach Oh always emphasizes defense and aggressiveness, and he tells us that we must have venom on the court. I will become a more active player on the court so that the team can move forward in the way my coach wants.”
