Will NC Dinos’ top rookie Shin Young-woo reveal his true value this year?

Shin Young-woo, a graduate of Centum Middle School and Gyeongnam High School, is a right-handed pitcher whose strengths include a fiery fastball and a breaking ball with a large drop. He has so much potential that he was selected by NC in the 1st round, 4th overall, in 2023.

However, he faced the challenge of control instability last year. He boasted a fierce pitch, striking out 83 batters while playing 66 innings in 17 games in the Futures (2nd team) league, but he also committed 89 walks. While he has yet to make his first-team debut, his final performance in the Futures League was 3 wins, 7 losses, and an average ERA of 6.14.

o make up for this, Shin Young-woo has been sweating hard since the finishing camp at the end of last year. He modified his form to reduce unnecessary movements and throw concisely, and worked on balancing his pitches.

The head coach is listing Shin Young-woo as a starting candidate for this season. Coach Kang In-kwon, whom we met at the end of last season, did not hide his expectations, saying, “Shin Young-woo is a starting candidate,” and “I think he will show good form (this season).”

First of all, it doesn’t seem like a bad start. Following last season, he joined NC’s first team CAMP 2 (Spring Camp), which is being held in Tucson, Arizona, USA for the second year in a row, and had a live pitching event on the 20th (Korean time). Live pitching is training where the batter stands at the plate and throws the ball as if it were a real game.

According to the NC club, Shin Young-woo threw 27 balls that day. His highest speed was measured at 152km, and his average speed reached 150km, highlighting his strong point of fast balls. Veteran Park Min-woo, who played against him, said, “(Except for Kyle Hart), Shin Young-woo’s ball is the most memorable. “He showed a very powerful performance,” he said.
