Eric Dier left a final message on Instagram.

“England defender Eric Dier has posted an emotional farewell video for Tottenham Hotspur fans after being reunited with Harry Kane at Bayern Munich,” British outlet Goal.com reported on Dec. 12 (KST).

Dier is an all-round defender who is a center back by trade, but can also play defensive midfield and right back, and has far more weaknesses than strengths. He is quite slow on his feet, so his defensive cover is limited, and he is often criticized by Spurs fans for his ups and downs and lack of concentration in defensive situations.

During Pochettino’s time at Tottenham, he played as a defensive midfielder, providing solid support for Jan Vertonghen and Alderweireld. Under Mourinho, he started to play as a center back, and alongside Davinson Sanchez, he made mistakes in every game and failed to earn the trust of the fans.

A regular starter under both Nuno and Conte, he performed well under Conte in the 2021/22 season, leading the team to a fourth-place finish in the league. However, in the 2022/23 season, he bounced back with a mistake-riddled campaign.

Tottenham bolstered their defense this season with the signing of center back Micky Van der Vaart from Wolfsburg, and Dier’s standing has plummeted as the club hasn’t used him in the face of injuries to the current crop of Spurs center backs.

Now Munich have signed him, and at the center of it all is Kane. Kane is a very close friend from their time together at Tottenham. Kane kept pushing for a move, and Bayern Munich jumped at the chance after reaching a personal agreement with Dyer.

“FC Bayern Munich has signed Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier on a contract until June 30, 2024 with an option for an additional year,” the Bavarians announced on their website today. The England international will wear the number 15 shirt for the Bavarians,” the club confirmed.

After confirming the move, Dyer posted a farewell message on Instagram. “After almost 10 years, it’s time to say goodbye to this amazing football club. It’s been an incredible journey filled with so many amazing moments. I have grown as a player and as a person at Tottenham, and from the moment I joined, I have always felt at home here.”

He continued, “The true members of any club are the people, and I feel fortunate to have made lifelong friendships over the past nine and a half years. I will be forever grateful for the experiences we’ve all shared together and will leave with many wonderful memories to cherish forever.”

Dyer concluded, “It’s time to start a new chapter for me and my family. I would like to thank everyone who has been on this journey with me and wish nothing but the best for the players, the manager, the staff at the club and most importantly, all Spurs fans.”
