The ‘King of Volleyball’ Kim Yeon-kyung (35, Heungkuk Life) is showing that she is still going strong in the 2023-2024 season.

Kim led her team to its ninth consecutive victory with 17 points against Pepper Savings Bank at Samsan World Gymnasium in Incheon on Friday, boasting a high attack success rate (51.85 percent).

Prior to this game, Kim ranked first in the offense category (44.69%). The second through sixth spots are held by foreign players.

She ranks eighth in scoring (271 points), the highest among Korean players, and sixth in receiving efficiency (42.71%), the third highest among attackers.

He is an efficient and prolific scorer with a sharp offense while also playing solid defense.

She is blessed with natural physical condition and athleticism, but it’s hard to achieve such a record without constant effort.

“When I prepare for a game, I analyze the opponent’s defense and blocking position,” Kim said after the match.

“I prepare differently for each game because each team has a slightly different style of stopping (back-to-back attacks),” she said, adding, “Pepper Savings Bank was a defense that didn’t care much about attacking the paint.”

The outcome of the match was a far cry from their previous meeting four days ago, when they won in straight sets.

“I think it was good that we did a lot of opponent analysis while reviewing what didn’t go well,” said Kim. I think it worked because I knew my opponent well and prepared well,” she said, adding that preparation was the key.

When asked about her skill level after 19 years, she shyly gave credit to those around her.

“I think it’s because of the team’s success,” said the second-round MVP. I think I should buy one.”

Kim Yeon-kyung, who made her debut in the 2005-2006 season, said, “I was embarrassed to say I’ve been playing for 18 years,” adding, “(Fans) want me to play for 20 years, but I’m too old, so (for now) I’m working hard this season.” 토토
