Qatar Olympic Team head coach Les Ilydiu was pleased with both the result and the content of the win over South Korea.

Qatar earned a 2-0 victory over South Korea on Saturday at the Changwon Football Center in Changwon, Gyeongnam, in the first match of Group B of the 2024 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-23 (U23) Asian Cup, which doubles as a qualifier for the Paris Olympics.

However, as Qatar will host next year’s AFC U23 Asian Cup, the match between the two teams was classified as an evaluation match and will not count towards the qualification results.

After the game, Coach Ildidiu said, “The performance was good. We dominated in both the first and second halves, playing the game we wanted to play,” he said, adding, “I’ve just been appointed national team coach and it was a chance to raise the level of the team.”

“We’re not at our best right now, so we’re trying to raise our game,” he said, adding, “We’re doing our best to improve both organizationally and individually.”

Qatar kept South Korea at bay for the entire 90 minutes, capitalizing on their opponents’ mistakes to score two goals.

“We knew Korea was a strong opponent,” said Ilidiu. “We didn’t have 토토사이트 much time to prepare for Korea, so we focused on analyzing the opponent and prioritized being organized,” he said, explaining the key to the victory.

“Qatar won, but South Korea was a good team,” Ildidio concluded, consoling Hwang Sun-hong.
