The LG Twins beat the Doosan Bears in extra innings to extend their winning streak to three games.
LG beat Doosan 7-6 in the 10th inning of their 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League game at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on July 29, thanks to Oh Ji-hwan’s game-winning hit in extra innings.
With the win, leader LG improved to 52-2-33 with its third straight victory and maintained a 2.5-game lead over second-place SSG Landers (49-1-35), which swept the Hanwha Eagles on the same day. Third-place Doosan, on the other hand, dropped its fourth straight game to fall to 44-1-40.
The game was tied at 0-0 in a pitcher’s duel through the fourth inning, but the fifth inning turned the tide. With the bases loaded, LG scored three runs on a double by Moon Sung-joo and an error.
In the process, Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop was ejected for protesting the video review. The momentum carried LG to a 4-0 lead after back-to-back RBI singles by Kim Hyun-soo.
Doosan answered right back. A walk to leadoff hitter Kang Seung-ho and back-to-back singles by Yang Chan-yeol and Park Jun-young loaded the bases, and Jung Soo-bin’s RBI single scored the first run.
Doosan’s offense continued. With the bases loaded, Kim Jae-hwan lined a double off of reliever Kim Jin-sung. The ball sailed through the defense shift and into the outfield, bringing home runners from second and third.
Doosan then tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth inning when Yang Chan-yeol singled off Jung Woo-young with runners on second and third to bring home Yang Ji from third.
Doosan added two more runs in the eighth inning off LG pitcher Ham Seung-jo.
But LG remained strong. In the ninth, Moon Bo-kyung doubled off Chung Chul-won and Park Hae-min singled to put runners on first and third. Shin Min-jae then hit a grounder to shortstop, but Kim Jae-ho, who caught the ball, made a throwing error and scored a run.
Hong Chang-ki then hit a grounder to Doosan closer Hong Gun-hee, allowing Park Hae-min to score from third base to tie the game at 6-6 and send the game into extra innings.
After tying the game in dramatic fashion, LG rallied in the top of the 10th.
Leadoff hitter Kim Hyun-soo doubled, and pinch runner Choi Seung-min quickly reached third on Austin Dean’s grounder to second. Then, Oh Ji-hwan hit a grounder to third baseman Heo Kyung-min, who couldn’t make the catch. In the meantime, Choi Seung-min scored from third base, giving LG a 7-6 lead.
In the bottom of the 10th inning, 한국야동 Go Woo-seok retired the next three batters to end the long game.
