Just like Jung Ho-yeon, who endeared himself to the world in the Netflix drama The Squid Games, another South Korean competing at the Paris 2024 Olympics is making waves.

Kim Ye-ji (31, Imsil-guncheong, South Korea) is the national shooting champion.

A video of her posted on social networking service (SNS) X (Twitter) on March 30 (local time), right in the middle of the Paris Games, literally went viral.

The video of the female warrior calmly staring at the target, firing, and touching the pistol without a trace of emotion despite setting a world record has already racked up tens of millions of views.

Even Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla, commented, “She doesn’t need to act. Let’s cast her in an action movie,” he commented.

The craze is so strong that Time magazine wrote, “Kim Ye-ji, the South Korean marksman who captivated the Internet with her stylish attire and confidence, is now aiming for gold at the Olympics.”

Kim will compete in the 25-meter pistol event at the Chateauroux Shooting Center in France on Feb. 2 to advance to the finals.

If she finishes in the top eight, the first shot of the final will be fired at 4:30 p.m. ET.

“I will definitely win gold in my main event, the 25-meter pistol,” said Kim, who won silver in the 10-meter air pistol individual event on March 28.

Kim Ye-ji and Yang Ji-in (21, Korea Gymnastics Team) are competing in the 25-meter pistol event, which is reserved for women.

The main competition is divided into two parts: 30 rounds of slow fire and 30 rounds of rapid fire.

The first is a series of five shots in five minutes, with a total of six series.

The finals are all sudden death. The eight competitors shoot three series of 15 shots, five shots per series, with the last place finisher eliminated after every five shots.

Only those who score a 10.2 or higher on the target are considered a hit and receive one point, while those who score less than 10.2 receive zero points.

Kim set a world record with a 42-point score in the final of this event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Baku Shooting World Cup in May.

The video that has gone viral is the moment she broke the world record in the final of the Baku World Cup.

The Korean shooting world is celebrating the good things that come to those who literally ‘wake up’ to a global star.

With two gold and two silver medals so far at the Paris Olympics, South Korean shooting is on track to repeat its best-ever performance at London 2012 (three gold and two silver), and the sport has gotten the public attention it has been craving.

But even with all the hype, Kim hasn’t lost her cool.

“Kim Ye-ji and Yang Ji-in are doing a great job preparing for the competition. They are in good shape,” he said.

Kim is not alone in the 25-meter pistol.

Kim is ranked No. 4 in the world in this category, and Yang is No. 2.

At the national team selection, Yang Ji-in was ranked first and Kim second.

Yang set a new world record with 41 points in the final of this event at the Asian Championships in Jakarta this year, and tied the world record with the same score in the first round of the World Cup in Baku.

With two ‘aces’ in Kim Ye-ji and Yang Ji-in, the 25-meter pistol will be aiming for its third gold medal of the Games. 파워볼사이트 추천
