The Doosan Bears have won four straight games against the defending pennant race champion KIA Tigers. Doosan won 9-4 against KIA at Jamsil Stadium on the 19th. With Choi Seung-yong pitching a quality start (6+ innings pitched, 3 earned runs or less), the offense was led by Yang Ji-ji and Kim Jae-ho, who each had two RBIs, and Kim Jae-hwan with a multi-hit game. Playing their first game after clinching the pennant race early, Kia fielded their best lineup, but lost starter Eric Stout to a thigh injury after just 1⅔ innings, and their offense struggled to get going. They’ve lost two in a row. Season record is 83 wins, 2 draws, and 53 losses.
Kia took an early lead in the top of the first inning. Leadoff hitter Kim Do-young tripled to center field, followed by a walk to Park Chan-ho, a groundout by Kim Sun-bin, and an RBI single by Choi Hyung-woo to take a 2-0 lead.
However, Doosan tied the game in the bottom of the second inning.
Kim Jae-hwan led off with a single to right and then took advantage of a defensive lapse to steal second. Yang was retired on a fielder’s choice, but Jared Young’s double to right field scored Jae-hwan. A walk to Kang Seung-ho tied the game at 3-3, and Lee Yoo-chan’s double to left-center scored Kim to make it a 3-2 game. Stout gave up a walk to Jung Soo-bin and collapsed in front of the mound, eventually leaving the game with left thigh pain. Kia brought in Kim Ki-hoon in relief to get the final out.

Doosan broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth. Jung Soo-bin doubled to right field against Kia’s Lim Ki-young, and when Heo Kyung-min’s throw was missed by Kim Do-young, Jung Soo-bin came home to make it 8-3. With the bases loaded, Yang Ji-hyun hit an RBI double to center field to score one more run and make it 9-3 Doosan.
Kia got one run back in the top of the seventh against Doosan’s Hong Gun-hee, when Lee Woo-sung doubled to left field and Byun Woo-hyuk’s fly ball landed in an awkward spot, allowing Lee’s pinch-hitter Park Jung-woo to score from first and third on Han Jun-soo’s grounder. However, they were unable to score any more runs as they were unable to follow up.
Doosan closed out the game in the top of the eighth inning with the final out of the inning, and Park Chi-guk, who took the mound in the ninth inning, protected the five-run lead.
